Rei Kawakubo | Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between Exhibition

I was lucky enough to be in NY during Kawabuko's Installation at THE MET.
The Costumes were split into nine stories, it explores "in-betweenness" and space between boundaries.

The nine categories: Absence/Presence, Design/Not Design, Fashion/Anti-Fashion, Model/Multiple, Then/Now, High/Low, Self/Other, Object/Subject, and Clothes/Not Clothes.

I loved the juxtaposition between the simplicity of the space and complexity of the garments, the details that went into each costume, every pleat and gather.
There was something airy about the space, it really allows audience to clear the surrounding noises, to each their own, these garments go beyond texture and its craftsmanship, initiating deeper life perspectives.

As a first timer at The Met Museum, Tips? You Bet. The museum is donation based, you are not required to pay for entry but highly respected. This is a huge museum that requires most of the day, if not the entire day. The 5 story building has 2 main Floors full of galleries, organized mostly by countries and art genres.  The Exhibition changes from time to time, always a good thing to check ahead, if schedule allows avoid going on weekends.
