THE NOGUCHI MUSEUM

The Noguchi Museum

There are many excellent art museums in New York City that most people gravitate towards, but the lesser known are sometimes as equally worth seeing. Located in Long Island City the Noguchi Museum hoses the works of Japanese American sculptor Isamu Noguchi's works.

The whole museum houses only his works and is entirely curated by himself. One part of the museum is industrial building that he repurposed. A lot of natural lighting and architectural lines for some amazing photography.

The 'Akari' light sculpture is probably what this place is most known for, the Japanese term means light and illumination, but also implies the idea of weightlessness. Viewers are encouraged to walk through the sculptures and even lay on the ground for a different experience and view point.

If the name Isamu Noguchi does not sound familiar to you, these world renounced sculptures created by him across the world must ring a bell.  Don't feel bad, because I totally did not know either until going to the museum! For example the UNESCO garden in Paris, France, the Piazza, in Bologna Italy. There are many more! If you are living in SoCal there in  California Scenario in Costa Mesa and one in Palm Springs too!

I must say after seeing the exhibition I am more intrigued and would love to explore some more of his sculptures, especially his public works. Inevitably I am adding the Akari sculpture light to my future home furnishing list!

Anyone can take a guess what is the name of the sculpture below?
